The Jobs We
Won't Touch

Honesty matters more than turnover. This page exists to tell you, plainly, the work we choose not to take on — and why. Right now that list is short, but it starts with one of the most notorious gearboxes on the road.

Mercedes 722.9 — Conductor Plate Swaps

We do not take in any work involving the swapping of conductor plates on the Mercedes 722.9 (7G-Tronic) automatic gearbox. No exceptions, no "we'll have a look" — it's a firm no.

The 722.9 is a 7-speed automatic used across a huge range of Mercedes models — from the A-Class up to AMG variants. The conductor plate sits inside the valve body and carries the solenoids and sensors that control gear selection. When it fails, the symptoms are well known: harsh shifts, limp mode, no gear engagement, and a dashboard full of codes.

The fix on paper is simple — swap the plate. In reality, it is one of the most notoriously difficult and unrewarding jobs in the trade. Here is exactly why we decline it.

Notoriously Time-Consuming

The 722.9 is one of the most labour-intensive gearboxes to work on. A conductor plate swap alone can eat days of workshop time — time that could service a dozen other vehicles properly.

Complex Adaptation & SCN Coding

After the plate is swapped, the gearbox needs full adaptation runs and Mercedes SCN online coding tied to a live dealer account. Without it, the box throws codes and drives wrong. It is not a "fit and forget" job.

High Risk of Comebacks

Even when done "correctly", these boxes are known for repeat failures — solenoid faults, sleeve leaks, valve body issues. We refuse to take on work where the comeback rate outweighs the reward.

Hidden Damage Risk

By the time a conductor plate fails, contamination has often spread through the box. A plate swap alone rarely addresses the root cause — and we will not fit a part knowing the underlying problem is still there.

Specialist Tooling Required

Doing it properly requires dedicated 722.9-specific tooling, a controlled clean environment, and dealer-level diagnostic access. We will not attempt it with generic equipment.

Better Suited to a Transmission Specialist

There are dedicated Mercedes automatic transmission specialists whose entire business is built around the 722.9. For this one job, they are the right people — and pointing you to them is the more economical choice for you.

Take It to a Transmission Specialist

For a 722.9 conductor plate — or any internal 722.9 fault — your best outcome is a dedicated automatic transmission specialist. They have the tooling, the clean room, the dealer access, and the volume of these jobs to do it properly and stand behind it. We are happy to point you in the right direction if you're unsure where to go.

What we CAN do for your Mercedes

ECU remapping, DPF/AdBlue solutions, speed limiter work, and full diagnostics on everything outside the 722.9 gearbox internals. If your issue isn't the conductor plate, we're very likely your people.

Not sure if it's the conductor plate?

Bring it to us for a proper diagnostic first. We'll tell you honestly whether it's a 722.9 internal fault — in which case we'll refer you out — or something we can fix in-house. No guessing, no wasted money.
